Glimpse of Lungleng Lal In Lungleng-I
The Lungleng Lal In is century old Residence of the famous Mizo Chief, Khamliana Sailo at Lungleng village in Aizawl District in Mizoram. It is the first house in Mizoram having a tin roof built back in 1918. A few structural replacements were made recently to prevent collapse due to wear and tear of the house. The house is surrounded by a huge clearing of grassy green glades ideal for picnics. It is about an hour drive approx. 30 kms from Aizawl city on the way to Hmuifang village. Mizo Chief, Khamliana Sailo was the first literate amongst the Chief and was the first person to write a letter addressing to the British Missionaries. On 16th June, 1897, he even wrote a letter to Queen Elizabeth congratulating her for her 60 years of reign. He was a pioneer in establishing relations between the British and the Mizos. Due to his tremendous contribution, he was awarded 'KAISER-I-HIND' Medal in 1923 by the Colonial British Government.
